Poème Clothing is a boho-chic style that is ethically produced and artisan crafted in Bali. But how and why is it produced in Bali?

Ever since the Rana Plaza Tragedy, ethically produced clothing has grown tremendously. Many reasons exist for supporting ethical fashion: 1) the fashion industry disproportionately affects young women in developing countries, 2) the fashion industry affects local ecosystems, 3) fast fashion creates huge waste. Although unfair working conditions are still a huge problem in the fashion industry; we are proud to make ethical practices the foundation of our business model.

In Bali, we work directly with a small, family-run manufacturer that has been around for more than 40 years and employs highly talented artisans. Their garments are carefully crafted and thoughtfully made.

We not only care about the fabrics of our clothing, but also the lives of those who produce them. We believe this should be the standard throughout the whole industry; we should appreciate our artisans. You are receiving handmade and unique pieces and your purchases go toward empowering our artisans through a fair income in a country where unfair working conditions and poverty are the norms. So when you ask #WhoMadeMyClothes, you can be assured that with Poème, your clothes are made with care and attention and your dollars go towards these artisans, not towards unfair practices where people and the environment are treated poorly.

We are proud that at Poème, not only are we engaging artisans to use their skills to contribute to the ethical fashion industry but also are helping to empower sustainable development through enhancing their livelihoods as they use those skills. We want our artisans to feel valued, safe, and be properly compensated for their work.

Because of the impact that the fashion industry has on the environment, on people, and the economy, we believe your dollars have power. Consumers have the power to decide how and where their clothes are made. Thank you for  choosing to support ethical fashion by supporting us (and looking super cute in the process)!
